Act 26 [Finale]

~The Nutcracker~

26. AKT

~Der Nußknacker~

Notes for Act 26

"Siegfried"

Prince Siegfried is the main male character

in Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" ballet.

Siegfried is also a principal character

in Richard Wagner's "Ring

of the Nibelung" operas.

An excerpt from Siegfried's funeral march

in Wagner's "Twilight of the Gods" has

been featured in the series since Act 10.

Wagner also named one of his sons

Siegfried, and a short musical piece he

wrote for his wife has become

known as "Siegfried Idyll."

"Siegfried Idyll" has been used as a character

theme in "Princess Tutu" since Act 5. It is the

first piece played in the opening

confrontation of Act 26.

Related notes

In a 1911 production of Tchaikovsky's

"Swan Lake," a new solo dance was

introduced for the role of Prince Siegfried.

The solo was performed by Vaslav

Nijinsky to the music of "The Dance

of the Sugar-plum Fairy," from

Tchaikovsky's "The Nutcracker."

In the opening scene of Act 1, Ahiru sees

the prince dancing alone to "The Dance

of the Sugar-plum Fairy" in her dream.

Like Neko-sensei's mentor Nyajinsky in Act

14, the somewhat androgynous Nijinsky

was known for his gravity-defying leaps.

One of Nijinsky's most famous and

controversial performances was

choreographed for Debussy's "Prelude

to the Afternoon of a Faun."

In Act 17, the somewhat androgynous

Femio performs a dance for the

elementary class, to the music of "Prelude

to the Afternoon of a Faun."

StarCreator for their invaluable

assistance throughout the fansubbing

of "Princess Tutu."

We urge you to show your support for

"Princess Tutu" by purchasing

the retail DVDs if they are licensed

for release in the U.S.

We hope you have found this series

to be as exceptionally entertaining

as we have. Enjoy the finale!

Once upon a time...

...a man died.

The man tried to continue spinning stories after his death...

...but he couldn't seem to get his stories to develop.

The man grinned broadly...

...and called a duck into his story.

The little duck tried her best for the prince...

...and eventually surpassed her role as a duck...

...developing an intricate love for the prince.

However, as a mere duck...

...she was destined to disappear in a flash of light.

Yes.

That was the fate that had been decided for her in the story...

...the tearful conclusion.

Drossel And so, the prince and princess lived happily ever...

Did I say happily?

You only want the least amount of happiness in your story as possible!

That would be too boring!

Now, show me your finest tragedy!

No one to be saved, and no happy end to come for all eternity...

Yes, the finest tragedy!

Congratulations!

Raven Prince!

What are you trying to do here in this final act?

You don't care what happens to the girl inside of me, drowning in despair?

Mytho I will rescue the princess!

Without fail!

Ahiru Quack!

Raven Are you really saying that you'll make a human girl, raised by me, your princess?

Mytho That's right!

Ahiru Mytho!

Fakir Mytho, you...

Raven How foolish!

Those ravens were originally humans.

How will you fight them, prince?

Ahiru What will you do, Mytho?

Raven Bring the prince's heart to me, my ravens!

Crowd Give us your heart!

Give us your heart!

Give us your heart!

Give us your heart!

Mytho What cruelty you show, monster raven!

Ahiru Quack!

Quack!

Fakir Mytho!

Crowd Give us your heart!

Give us your heart!

Ahiru Mytho!

Mytho Stop it!

Ahiru Quack!

Fakir Ahiru, what are you doing?!

Ahiru Quack!

Mytho Stop it!

Ahiru Fakir, I have to help Mytho!

Fakir Ahiru...

Ahiru earnestly flapped her wings...

...hurrying to the prince.

Perhaps, sensing her feelings...

...a gust of wind became her ally.

Ahiru Quack!

Quack!

Qua-Stop it!

Qua...

Fakir The ravens attacking Ahiru stopp...

...stopp- stopp-

...didn't stop!

Ahiru!

Aotoa Hey, wait!

Fakir Let go of me! I have to go!

Aotoa Go and do what?!

The useless knight wouldn't be able to protect anyone!

Weren't you going to avoid dying in vain?

You decided that you were going to write stories, didn't you?

Then write until the end!

Concentrate!

Fakir Damn it!

Uzura Someone's coming-zura.

Aotoa Th-That's...!

Get inside!

Crowd Heart!

Heart!

Heart!

Heart!

Ahiru Quack!

Quack!

Hey, stop it!

Quack quack quack!

Mytho At this rate...

At this rate, I'll be powerless to keep my heart from being stolen.

Does this mean that I should break apart my own heart again...

...and seal him away again, after all?

Fakir No!

That's not right, Mytho!

Damn it, do I not have the power to change the story after all?

Ahiru Quack, qua-quack, quack quack!

Without the pendant, I'm nothing but a duck.

Quack!

A plain old duck with no power at all.

Qua-qua-quack!

A plain old duck who can't do anything.

Drossel That's right.

Even though you worked so hard to surpass your role as a duck, huh?

But you know...

It's a shame, but this story isn't going to have a happy ending!

No matter how hard you try...

The more you struggle against it, the more tragic it will become!

Or something!

I wonder why that is, huh?

Furuhon Leading the story into tragedy... unforgivable!

Aotoa Fakir, are you giving up?!

Mytho I'm already stuck, unable to do anything!

Ahiru What can I do?

Drossel Throw your dreams of a happy ending into the endless depths of despair!

You'll have to show me the finest tragedy that you have!

Mytho I will pierce my heart once again!

Ahiru What?!

Raven Nonsense! If you seal me away, the princess, too...

Mytho No matter how many hundreds of years it might take...

...I shall rise again and defeat you!

And then at that time, I will take my own life...

...and go to the princess's side!

Ahiru You can't!

Fakir Are you saying you'll lose your heart and repeat the same pattern again?!

Ahiru Just when we returned his heart to him...

That... can't happen!

It can't!

It can't!

Quack! Quack quack!

You can't do that! You can't!

Qua-quack!

Quack! Quack!

Mytho, please, stop it!

Quack! QUACK!

Mytho Tutu?

Ahiru QUACK!

Don't give up!

Drossel Oh? You're still fighting it?

Ahiru Fakir, I want to help Mytho!

Once again...

Fakir Ahiru...

Drossel No use! No use!

What in the world can a plain old duck do?

Raven Even though you are no longer princess Tutu...

What are you planning to do?

Ahiru Everybody...

Don't give up!

Don't be defeated!

Let's make a happy ending!

Eyecatch

Rue The depths of despair...

How calming they are.

I'm no longer deceived by anyone...

I no longer need to hold bitterness towards anyone.

I no longer... have to love.

I can just dance until I rot away.

Drossel Thank you!

The human daughter who carries the blood of the raven within her...

Your tragedy has made a beautiful flower bloom in my story.

Even though you realized that the town was being controlled by my story...

...you fell for the monster raven's deception...

...and are trying to make yourself rot in the depths of despair.

What's that?! There's still a bit of sadness left?

This brings even mare tragedy! Thank you!

Ahiru I am a mere duck...

I can't wear toeshoes...

But...

I feel that I can dance for the sake of Rue-chan, Mytho, and everyone else.

Fakir, lend me your power!

Fakir Ahiru...

Ahiru Will you dance with me, everyone?

Prince, save the princess.

Mytho Tutu...

Ahiru Everyone, let's dance together!

And...

Remember your true selves!

Raven What are you trying to do, now that you're a mere duck?

Ahiru The real me is just a duck.

But I can still dance!

I must be able [to] convey my feelings by dancing as well!

I won't decide I can't do anything while sitting around, doing nothing!

Because I make my own story!

Everyone, return to your own stories, and your true selves!

It isn't decided by anyone!

Let's treat our own feelings with care.

Fakir It is true that her dance was not as beautiful as princess Tutu's.

However, in the hearts of all who saw it...

...something that felt like a warming light...

...streamed into them with a feeling of reassurance!

Raven As a duck...

If you want to dance so much, you can dance as much as you want in the darkness of despair!

Mytho Monster raven...

Raven My ravens, dance with the little duck!

Until she uses up all of her energy and dies, that is!

Ahiru Quack!

Fakir Ahiru?

Ahiru!

Aotoa I see. So he can write stories about that girl?

Ahiru Quack, quack!

Quack, quack!

QUACK!

Qua-Quack!

Mytho Tutu!

I won't give up anymore!

I will unequivocally defeat the monster raven with my own hands!

And so I can do that...

I will save Rue!

Ahiru Qua-

Qu-Quaaack!

Qua-qua-quack.

Quaaaack! Quack!

Fakir Damn it! I can't stop the ravens from attacking her!

Crap!

Ahiru Qua!

Fakir Ahiru!

Furuhon I've found you, you damnable descendant of that abomination!

Aotoa Stop with the violence!

Furuhon All of my comrades have turned into ravens!

Cutting off your hands will be an insufficient punishment.

Mytho Rue!

She cannot lose to despair!

If my voice can reach her...

Aotoa Fakir is trying to end the story!

Furuhon Stop that nonsense!

Look out at the town full of ravens!

Don't fight against this anymore with your untrained power!

The story is stlll being written with a strong power!

His inexperienced hand will only bring unforeseen tragedy!

Ahiru I won't give up.

Fakir Ahiru.

Ahiru Fakir, I can still go on.

I can still dance.

Fakir I understand.

Aotoa Look out!

Write, Fakir!

Ahiru I heard Fakir's voice.

Fakir...

QUAACK!

Fakir Ahiru!

Ahiru Fakir?

Fakir Damn it!

Ahiru What happened?

Fakir Write!

For the sake of those who are waiting for your story!

Ahiru...

Ahiru It's Fakir's voice...

Fakir, I can still...

Fakir Ahiru stood up.

Giving no heed to her injuries, she never considered stopping her dance.

That was the only thing that she could do right then...

Mytho Rue... Rue!

Ahiru Don't lose to the raven's blood!

Don't be taken in by the despair!

Let's make this story have a happy ending!

Don't give up.

Don't be afraid.

Fakir Her small body...

...was so badly injured that she couldn't even stand.

But...

To lead the prince...

...and all of the people to a happy ending...

Regardless of her pain...

...without losing hope...

...she continued dancing!

That power came from deep within Ahiru's body...

...and poured out boundlessly.

Mytho That... that light...

That's right.

The light that burns in my heart whenever I think of Tutu...

Fakir That power...

...grasps the hearts of those who were controlled by the monster raven...

...and warms them, one after another.

That power...

...is hope!

...is hope!

Drossel What the...?!

Hope, he said?!

Mytho In the name of prince Siegfried...

...I call the name of my princess!

Rue!!!!!!

Rue The prince's voice...

I'm here.

Mytho Rue, I've come for you.

Rue Prince...

Mytho Let's defeat the monster raven together.

Ahiru Mytho! Rue-chan!

Fakir Mytho!

Mytho Let's go.

Rue Yes.

Fakir The story will end!

Drossel It will be over!

Ahiru Mytho! Rue-chan!

Thank... goodne...ss.

Fakir Ahiru!

Uzura I know where the story is-zura!

This way-zura!

We're back-zura!

Annaijo Welcome back.

Prince...

The entrance to the story is this way.

Ahiru What's this?

Uzura This is it-zura.

Fakir I see.

This controls the events of Kinkan Town.

It has stopped writing its story.

The machine that calls forth tragedy for Drosselmeyer's enjoyment, huh?

Ahiru Tragedy...

Mytho Fakir, what are you...?

Fakir I'll write the rest of it.

Ahiru Quack?

Fakir Prince, you should live as you wist, freely.

Mytho Yes.

Ahiru Yes.

Mytho Rue.

Rue Yes?

Mytho I want you to come with me.

As my princess.

Rue But I...

...have the monster raven's blood...

Mytho The monster raven's blood?

It probably remains inside of me as well.

Fakir Prince!

Mytho Even though I should love all people...

Despite that, right now...

Right now, I want to love Rue the most.

Rue!

Fakir Moron.

It's fine that way.

Ahiru That's great.

Rue You're Ahiru?

Ahiru Quack.

Rue I'm so glad that I met you!

Thank you...

Ahiru Quack?

Rue I love you, Ahiru!

Ahiru I love you too, Rue-chan!

Uzura So this is love-love-zura!

Mytho Thank you, Tutu, Fakir!

Once upon a time...

...a man died.

The last story that the man had spun...

...should have ended in extraordinary tragedy.

However, the story turned out to have a happy ending.

The reason for that ending was...

...one little duck that the man himself called into the story.

Fakir Could you please be quiet?!

Drossel For one little duck to have that much hope in her...

...just when we should have had so much tragedy!

And for a character in the story to change the story itself...

A character in the story...

Huh?

Could I be in someone else's story as well?

Well, if so, that person can do as they please.

Ah, Uzura, you made it, huh?

This story is over.

You can't stay over there.

Now, let's go to another story.

Make sure to be useful to me this time!

Uzura I dunno-zura!

And so...

...a man started to write a story.

That story, overflowing with hope...

...had just begun.
